PRACTICAL INFORMATION – ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE TALL SHIPS FESTIVAL

Welcome to the biggest event in Stavanger between 26 – 29 July.  Here, you will hopefully find the answers to all the practical things you might be wondering about.

The Festival´s opening times

  • Thursday 26 July, 10:00-21:00
  • Friday 27 July, 10:00-21:00
  • Saturday 28 July, 10:00-21:00
  • Sunday 29 July, 10:00-15:00

Some restaurants/bars will have longer opening times. The Festivals main concerts will continue later than these opening hours, please see the program for details.

Transport to and from the Festival

Visitors are encouraged to use other means of transport than private cars to the city centre and the Festival area due to the limited parking and high traffic volume expected. Leave in good time!

  • Bus and boat: Kolumbus has expanded capacity on scheduled departures. Check out kolumbus.no/en/
  • Train: NSB has expanded seat capacity on scheduled departures. Check out nsb.no/en/
  • Bicycle: There are a number of bicycle parking places near the Festival area and in Stavanger centre. See the overview of the parking garages for bicycles.
  • Taxi: Taxis will be available in the area around Olav Vs gate/Haakon VIIs gate.

Parking

Free parking is available at the P-Forum and P-Siddis parking houses at Stavanger Forum (Madlaveien)  during The Tall Ships Races.  Shuttle busses will be available from here to and from the city centre (ticket required).

The Festival area will be closed for car parking. There will be reduced parking capacity at the following parking houses:

P-Arketten (beside the Concert Hall) and,

Check available parking via the Stavanger Parking App and signage along the access roads.

Guest Harbour

The Guest harbour at Børevigå (beside the Oil Museum) will be used by the Class C and D ships and therefore not available for use by the public.

Other guest harbours in the area can be contacted in advance for available berth reservations:

All events in the cultural program are free, with no ticket required or aged limit.

Open Ships

Most of the major ships will be open to the public on Thursday-Saturday. The ships decide the hours when they are open to visitors. Opening times are normally posted on their gangways. Admission is free.

First Aid

The First Aid Station, Fire Brigade and Police will be located at the top of the Market Place steps in front of Stavanger Cathedral (Kongsgård).

Child safety

Please ensure that children have the name of a parent/guardian on them.

Activity Booklet

An activity booklet that can be stamped at various stations in the Festival area is available for children of all ages from the Festivals Information.

Drone Flying

The Civil Aviation authorities does not allow drone flying over festivals or sporting events.

Serving of Alcohol

Alcohol can only be consumed in the area where it is served.

The Concert Halls amphitheatre is an alcohol-free zone outside of the outdoor seating area.

Sailing out on Sunday 29 July

The Parade of Sails out to Byfjorden starts from the harbour (Vågen) at 12:00 and must be past Tungenes Lighthouse by 16:00.

Randaberg and Rennesøy Municipalities have made good arrangements for the public on both sides of the fjord. Check the Municipality websites for details.

The regatta starts west of Kvitsøy between 19:00-20:00 on Sunday evening. The ships will then race south to Harlingen in The Netherlands.
