On Thursday 26 January, it will be eighteen months until the Tall Ships Races 2018 takes place in Stavanger.
The first ships have signed up, however registration for the regatta officially opens in April.
“Stavanger has a good reputation as a host port. The first two ships were eager to inform us that they will be with us in July 2018. We will have an overall view of who and how many will come by May 2018”, says Project Manager Knud Helge Robberstad.
Youth and sailing are the keywords for The Tall Ships Races. Young people between the ages of 15 – 25 years will be invited to join the ships as ‘trainees’ during the summers of 2017 and 2018 via a special campaign this spring.
The ships will sail from the Danish port of Esbjerg and dock along the quays of Stavanger harbour on 26 July 2018. Along the way, several ships will be calling in at smaller ports along the coast. The next leg of the race regatta leaves Stavanger on Sunday 29 July bound for Harlingen on the Dutch coast.
“The regatta stages are extremely competitive sports competitions for young people at sea. Stavanger’s own Wyvern usually does very well in its class”, says Project Manager Robberstad.
